Stories about WWII

I'm quit passionate on watching movies that tells story about World War II, some of them really catch my eye and become my all time favorite movies. One of them is the "Empire of the Sun", a story about the life during WWII from a view of a boy, if you still recall this film which release decades ago, is directed by Steven Spielberg. "Thomb stone of Firefries", a Japanese Animation. "Pianiest", "Schindler's list" and on top of my list, "Saving Private Ryan" is another great pictures as well, I think most of the readers would agree that.
Recently, there are 2 movies worth to watch, one is "Flag of our fathers" and "letter from Iwo Jima" Both created by Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg. Both of the films release almost the same time in the 4th Q of 2006. What special about these film is because both base on the same story background, the famous Battle of Iwo Jima between US and Japan, One of the greatest battle, share the same "honor" to the "Omaha Beach", but both of the film tell a totally different story. One is from the view of Americans and the other is from the view of the Japanese.
"Flag of our fathers"'s story start from a photo took on the "Suribachi" mountain showing US soldiers raising the American flag, this photo quickly become a symbol of heroism across the US and the US Goverment use it as a propaganda tool to raise war fund from the public. 3 of the flag raiser were send home to join the propaganda tour. After WWII, they left the army and suffer from the horrible wartime memories for the rest of their life.
"Letter from Iwo Jima" is totally in japanese language. The first WWII battle took place on Japanese soils, a small island call Iwo Jima. Japan force was only 1/5 compare to US. There were no reinforcement from the mainland. They knew that they can't win this war and they would die on this island. Writing letters is the only thing they could do for their love ones, even though those letters would not reach to them.
WWII create the most destruction and damaging human conflict in the history and the nearest to date. I love WWII movies, not because of the blood spreading fighting scene. I'm interested to the untold story behind the soldier or public citizen. Vitory or defeat seem to be the only outcome you will get, either side you are will not change the consequences of wars. You will not find happiness in a war. Only life lose, home damage and the worst thing would happen during wars.
